Describe your volunteer activities at HCT:
I have led mushroom identification walks for HCT at their Coy’s Brook Woodlands Preserve and presented at the annual “Meet Your Local Farmers” event co-sponsored by HCT and the Cape & Islands Farm Bureau.

How long have you volunteered?
The first walk I led for HCT was in 2012.  This year, I plan on leading another walk on one of their conservation properties during the summer/fall season.

What do you like most about it, memorable moments?
Taking the time to slow down and explore some of Cape Cod’s most beautiful areas while teaching people about the pivotal role of fungi in our ecology is one of my favorite ways to spend time.  The fascinating world of fungi always offers something new to discover and appreciate.

What’s special about Harwich?
HCT and Harwich demonstrate an ongoing and thriving commitment to preserving land. In addition, HCT offers unique and varied educational programs to further this end.

What else do you like to do for fun or other activities or volunteering?
I am a volunteer for the Rainforest Action Network’s ongoing campaign to educate about rainforest destruction caused by palm oil consumption.  I lead mushroom walks for numerous local conservation/educational organizations, including the Audubon Society, Barnstable Land Trust, Trustees of Reservations, Buzzards Bay Coalition and Wellfleet Conservation Trust.  I am the Founder/President of the not-for-profit Cape Cod Mushroom Club, will be volunteering at this year’s Truro Agricultural Fair, and currently volunteer on the Yarmouth 9/11 Memorial Steering Committee.
