Wayne & Mary Naus

Wayne-and-Mar_Naus-phoHO_HCT36_09252013_optDescribe your volunteer activities at HCT:
We’ve helped with live animal programs including the raptor and wolf events.  We’ve also helped with Coastsweep as well as sound system management for the Pleasant Bay Woodlands summer fundraiser.

How long have you volunteered?
We’ve volunteered for about 1-1/2 years.

What do you like most about it, memorable moments?
The thing we most enjoy about volunteering for HCT is the idea that in a small way we are helping the Trust reach their goal of keeping Harwich green and promoting habitat for numerous indigenous  animals.  One of our most memorable moments was having the opportunity to look eye-to-eye with a 150- pound wolf.

What’s special about Harwich
“Harwich has everything we don’t want.”  We don’t want air pollution, noise pollution, sign pollution or light pollution.  These are a few of the many reasons we feel fortunate to be living in Harwich.

What else do you like to do for fun or other activities or volunteering?
I (Wayne) retired after 35 years of teaching at Berklee College of Music in Boston.  Being a professional musician all my life, I’ve had the opportunity to travel and record with Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval and Lionel Hampton to name a few.  In my retirement I especially enjoy being the first mate on a commercial fishing boat out of Eastham.  Mary retired after 26 years as a faculty assistant at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.  In her retirement she has become a “professional beach bum”. We both volunteer at the Family Pantry of Cape Cod.
