Vince & Eva Dewitt

Vince-and-Eva-Dewitt_OraclePic_optDescribe your volunteer activities at HCT:
Vince is a HCT Trail Steward and Property Monitor who keeps an eye on specific properties watching for trail obstructions, encroachment or vandalism.  Being a professional photographer, he also volunteers his photos that help connect people to HCT’s land-saving work.  Eva has volunteered by searching for vernal pools and helping HCT with its live animal programs.

How long have you volunteered?
Vince and Eva DeWitt have volunteered for Harwich Conservation Trust for about six or seven years. Eva is 11 years old and her father Vince is 57.

What do you like most about it, memorable moments?
Eva likes seeing all the animals on HCT-sponsored nature walks as well as the wolf and bird shows.  Vince loves taking photographs and taking part in saving the natural places of Harwich.

What’s special about Harwich?
Thompson’s Field and the land preserved by the town and HCT around the Cape Cod Lavender Farm are special to us. We walk daily along the trails and old cartpaths of the Island Pond Conservation Lands that surround the Lavender Farm, looking for deer and listening for bird calls. The trails are near Harwich Center, which itself is lovely, set-off by First Congregational Church, Brooks Academy, and the town center park with its fountain.

What else do you like to do for fun or other activities or volunteering?
We’re members of the Cape Cod Bird Club and we also enjoy going to New Hampshire to hike in the White Mts. Eva has appeared in two Harwich Junior Theatre plays during the past year. She enjoys horseback riding and going to summer camp in NH. Vince has hiked the first half of the Appalachian Trail and hopes to finish the other half with Eva and his son Fielding some day.
