Describe your volunteer activities at HCT:
I have been a walk leader, vernal pool certifier, herring counter, trail monitor, event volunteer at wolf and owl shows, Cranberry Half Marathon, Coast Sweep.

How long have you volunteered?
I can’t remember exactly but it must be at least 5 or 6 years.

What do you like most about it, memorable moments?
You forget what a special place we live in until you get outside and see some of the uniqueness of the area.  The most memorable moment was finally seeing herring after being a counter for 2 years.  I’m probably one of the few people who remember when they were so plentiful that you could scoop a bucketful in no time.  Herring roe was one of the delicacies of dinner time in the spring on Cape Cod years ago.

What’s special about Harwich and why did you decide to make it home?
I had no choice in the matter.  My parents were living in Harwich when I was born.  My mother still does.

What else do you like to do for fun or other activities or volunteering?
I have been a volunteer with the Harwich Mariners and the Cape Cod Baseball League for over 30 years and am on the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Sports Committee.  I am also on the board of the Harwich Historical Society and the Friends of Harwich Town Band.  I am on the town’s Voter Information Committee along with HCT volunteer Chris Joyce.  I also am a member of the Harwich High School Friends of the Arts and am a supporter of different committees for the Harwich Chamber of Commerce.  Last fall I started volunteering at the Yarmouth Food Pantry.
