Volunteers Lend a Hand for Habitat at Thompson’s Field

HCT volunteers stay busy even in the winter by removing invasive plants, maintaining trails, and tending pile burns, as seen in the photos below. This week, HCT staff and volunteers joined the Town of Harwich Conservation Department at Thompson’s Field to help maintain the sandplain grassland habitat by cutting woody tree and invasive plant growth and burning them in burn piles.

Maintaining important habitats like sandplain grassland, which supports specialized native species, is an ongoing effort that could not be done without dedicated community support. Thank you to our volunteers and our partners AmeriCorps Cape Cod and the Town of Harwich who make our mission of saving land and preserving habitats possible!
