Preserving our Land and Life art exhibit: Celebrating the natural beauty of HCT’s Cold Brook Preserve
See artists at work and then enjoy their creations at one of Cape Cod’s preeminent galleries, during a unique two-day celebration of the natural beauty found at Harwich Conservation Trust’s (HCT) Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve.

On Friday, June 19th, during the day, the public is invited to observe en plein air artists as they capture the splendid surroundings at the Cold Brook Preserve (203 Bank Street, Harwich Port), where a recent rewilding project added a half-mile All Persons Trail, restored 44 acres of wetland and a mile of stream habitat.
Now home to all kinds of wildlife and flourishing native plants, the area has become a popular hiking and nature-watching destination. The award-winning eco-restoration project, made possible by generous HCT donors, Town of Harwich voters and dedicated partners, has produced significant ecological benefits, including increased habitat diversity, improved water quality, and enhanced stormwater absorption by the recovering wetlands.
Cold Brook now flows freely through the Preserve to Saquatucket Harbor on Nantucket Sound for the first time in over a century.
After the June 19th “paint out” brings artists to the Preserve, the “Preserving our Land and Life” exhibit reception will be held on June 20th, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Addison Gallery (43 South Orleans Road/Route 28), Orleans). The event will feature refreshments and live music by Sarah Burrill.
The exhibit will include original works created en plein air as well as studio paintings and drawings using reference based on photographs and wildlife trail cams at the Cold Brook Preserve that have captured animals at night and in motion.
