Join Coastsweep: Sept. 21, 2019

Coastsweep volunteers pause for a clean-up break and group photo.
For more than 20 years, Massachusetts volunteers have scoured beaches, river banks, marshes, pondshores, and the seafloor to pick up trash and record information about the types of trash collected. These volunteers are part of Coastsweep, the Commonwealth’s annual coastal cleanup program, organized by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management and the Urban Harbors Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Last year in Massachusetts, more than 3,200 Coastsweep volunteers cleaned over 138 miles of coastline, collecting more than 14,000 pounds of trash.
Last fall in Harwich, more than 40 volunteers helped clean the shores along Nantucket Sound and Pleasant Bay. This year, volunteers will again be participating in the Coastsweep cleanup coordinated by the Harwich Conservation Trust in partnership with the Town of Harwich.
Please join the Harwich Conservation Trust at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 21st at the Harwich Community Center (rain or shine) for our local Harwich Coastsweep. This volunteer event lasts from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m and is appropriate for all ages.
