Experience the serene thrill of seeing a snowy egret or spark a smile when a flock of sanderlings scurries by. Sponsored by Harwich Conservation Trust (HCT), discover migratory and resident bird species of the shore, salt marsh, and Nantucket Sound with Peter Trull at Red River Beach in South Harwich. Cape Cod is a migratory stopover for shorebirds like sandpipers, terns, plovers, and other species flying from the Arctic tundra to their southern wintering grounds. Year-round species also depend on our seaside habitats to find food and shelter.
Participants will learn field identification, adaptations, feeding habits, and natural history. Each excursion will likely feature different species as the month progresses. All experience levels welcome, so bring binoculars and enjoy your birding adventure. Peter will also have copies of his book for sale: Illustrated Guide to the Common Birds of Cape Cod.
