Attendee Limit: 12

Please bring binoculars and dress for weather and comfort.

Discover migratory and resident bird species of the shore, salt marsh, and Nantucket Sound with Peter Trull on summer mornings at Red River Beach in South Harwich.

Cape Cod is a migratory stopover for many species including shorebirds like sandpipers and plovers and wading birds like herons, egrets, and ibises. Year-round residents also depend on our seaside habitats to find food and shelter.

Learn about field identification, adaptations, feeding habits, and life histories. Each excursion will likely feature different species as the summer progresses. If least terns are nesting, we’ll study some colonial seabird language and behavior.

These walks are from 7:30-9:00 a.m. before a beach parking fee starts. However, if you want to stay beyond 9 to enjoy the beach, you can choose to pay a parking fee when the toll booth opens at 9.
