Dragonflies and damselflies have been flying over wetlands, meadows, and woodlands for over 300 million years. They are one of the most primitive orders of insects found on Earth today. HCT is excited to announce a new opportunity for participants to learn about the life history of these winged jewels!
Join field naturalist and author Peter Trull at HCT's new Hinckleys Pond - Herring River Headwaters Preserve this summer to learn about these beautiful insects as well as other wildlife that you may see or hear. This class will introduce participants to the dragonflies and damselflies so often seen zipping by. Have fun practicing how to identify characteristic field marks that distinguish species. Patience is key to recognize subtle differences. As the months progress, so will the diversity and flight times of the dragons and damsels! Bring binoculars and, if desired, a camera as well.
*We recommend wearing high boots to prevent contact with poison ivy and ticks.
