Dragonflies and damselflies have been flying over wetlands, meadows, and woodlands for over 300 million years, placing them among the most primitive insects found on Earth today. Join field naturalist and author Peter Trull at Sand Pond Woodlands to learn about these winged jewels. Hone your observation skills with this easygoing introductory class, covering all life cycle stages of these intriguing aerialists. Have fun practicing how to identify characteristic field marks that distinguish species. Patience is key to recognize subtle differences. As the summer progresses, so will the diversity and flight times of the dragons and damsels. Bring binoculars and, if desired, a camera as well.
