Birders, bird lovers and Nature enthusiasts, we cannot deny the warming rays of the sun in February and March. These days, revealing the oncoming rejuvenation of spring, are highlighted by the first singing northern cardinals, the whistling songs of tufted titmice, and black-capped chickadees. Soon we will be serenaded by the familiar “kon-ka-ree” of the first returning red-winged blackbirds. Longer days, (photoperiod) stimulate avian hormones, which in turn evoke migration, singing, courting, scouting for nest sites and overall, an increase in activity.
Observe, experience and learn bird identification, unique adaptations, and bird behaviors while supporting Harwich Conservation Trust. We’ll spend two hours every Thursday from 8-10 at HCT’s Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve, 66 acres of wetland, stream, and upland habitats. Field Naturalist and walk leader Peter Trull will immerse you into the life of birds tapping his dedication and in-depth study of the avian world. All birding interest and experience levels welcome!
Peter Trull has been involved in Research and Education for over 45 years. He holds a Master’s Degree in Education and has written nine books about Cape Cod natural history. His most recent book Birds of Paradox-The Life of Terns, was released in spring 2019. His upcoming book, Cape Cod – Once Around the Sun, is a tribute to John Hay and his 1961 classic Nature’s Year.
