As the summer wanes and the days grow shorter, migratory birds begin preparations for their upcoming journeys. Bell's Neck Conservation Lands with its rich ecosystem comprised of a variety of habitats becomes an important stopover site for migrants this time of year. Along with the local marshland and woodland nesters, the area affords a diversity of migrant bird life from many taxonomic families: herons and egrets, terns and gulls, sandpipers and plovers, waterfowl, and songbirds.
Join Field Naturalist Peter Trull to explore this dynamic area in late August. Learn bird identification and the life history of each species while strolling scenic trails during a 2-hour field class.
