Amazing mink video from the Cold Brook Preserve

Think mink! These marvelous mustelids will be on your mind after seeing this incredible video from Diane Palomba of Salty Air Photography. Diane and her cameras are frequent visitors to Harwich Conservation Trust’s (HCT) Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve, where she recently captured this footage of an American mink carrying a baby (called a kit).

There are currently five species of mustelids in Massachusetts: long-tailed weasels, ermines, fishers, American minks and North American River otters. Mustelids are noted for their elongated bodies, short legs and thick fur. Since the completion of HCT’s ambitious Cold Brook Eco-Restoration Project, we’ve seen a resurgence of native plants and wildlife, and Cold Brook now runs freely through the Preserve for the first time in over a century.
